The Induction Wads Guide- How To Apply

 

In layman’s terms, on any container, the  induction sealing wad is adhered to the mouth of the container by producing an induction current or heat. The conducting material, generally an aluminum foil is present in the induction sealing wad. It gets heated up and causes the sealant to adhere to the cap. Induction heating melts wax/solid glue present on the wad to bond with the backing material, which keeps the wad at its place.

This process creates an airtight seal and takes a few careful seconds of application. The best part of this process is neither the container nor its contents are impacted when subjected to temperature variations.

 

Types Of Induction Wads

 

There are three most common varieties of induction sealing wads available in the market.

The closure or the cap of the container is independent of the type of induction sealing wad used. The induction sealing wads are generally multilayered and comes in the following types:

 

Single Piece Sealing Wads

 

In a single-piece sealing wad, there is only one baseliner which is laminated with the materials like PET or aluminum foil. These induction sealing pads are typically designed to work with induction heat sealers. When the required pressure is applied, this single piece sticks to the container and produces a perfect seal.

 

Two-piece Sealing Wads

 

Two-piece sealing wads are made from two layers, (an upper and a lower layer) of paperboard that is adhered to the cap. One of the layers is wax, which is used to stick an aluminum foil to the paperboard. This foil is laminated by the polymer film at the lowermost base.

The container is passed through an induction coil, which produces an electromagnetic field after the cap is clamped on the mouth of the container. The conductive aluminum foil starts to heat up along with the induction coil.

 The wax melts away into the paperboard layer and allows the foil to get loosened from the closure or the cap. The polymer film also warms up and gets spread over the container’s lip. As the polymer cools down it forms a bond with the mouth of the container, creating an airtight seal.

When the induction seal is removed from the mouth of the container, two-piece sealing wads leave extra sealing in the cap to prevent leakage.

Capless sealing wads are used for bottles, jars, and containers that are meant for one-time use. These cap seals applied to the containers are only restricted for providing a spill-proof seal to the container.
