A blister packaging machine is an electromagnetic machine that has both stationary and moving parts. These parts help in packaging and sealing products in pre-formed cavities.
The blister packaging machine is divided into three types based on their operation process:
Irrespective of any type, the working principle of all the blister packaging machines is the same.
The blister packaging machine has three stages of operation: forming, sealing, and lastly perforating, and cutting.
There are two types of forming processes: thermoforming and cold forming. Plastic films are employed for thermoforming, whereas laminated aluminum forming is done by cold-forming. Products sensitive to moisture go through a cold-forming process. In thermoforming, plastic sheets are heated to forming temperature and are stretched over a mold to take its shape.
The sealing effect depends on three factors: pressure, time, and temperature. Low temperature, long time, and high pressure make the ideal condition for sealing. Blister lidding material is sealed tightly either with hot plates or by maintaining a good knurled pattern.
Perforation is the process of making holes in the blister packaging material so that a part can be easily removed. A precision die cutter is employed for perforating and cutting blister packaging
