Packing Policies Changed Due To Coronavirus
Date: 31-07-2021

While it’s already been 2 years of coronavirus, with the anticipation of the third wave coming anytime soon, packaging has become essential now more than ever.

Staying homes have increased the home deliveries hence the safety protocols for packaging industries have become more critical around the planet.

  1. HYGIENE:

This pandemic has heightened consumers’ hygiene standards and concerns, which has led the packaging industries to invest in more packaging materials.

  •     While the pre-pandemic era preferred lightweight packaging materials, the present scenario demands a more tamper-proof and strong packaging. This has become necessary to ensure the customers that the item is fully protected from any external environment.

  • The packaging industries have always been pushed to have a more sustainable and approach towards packaging. But in this pandemic, an increase in single-use packaging has led sustainability to take a back seat.

  • According to a survey, the use of sanitizers and disinfectants has increased by 44%-50% among consumers. It has pushed the companies to leave notes to inform the customers that the packaging and the items have been sanitized at their ends.

  • With social distancing at its peak, the consumers prefer to have minimal contact with the packaging. Protecting outside packages will ensure trust with your consumers.

2.  SECURED PACKAGING:

  • To avoid any kind of possible contact with coronavirus, the packaging industries are going for more sturdy and secured packaging methods like shrink wrapping, cellophane overwraps, and vacuum-sealed bags.

  •  Multiple layers of packaging materials have been used for extra safety protocols with the packages and their deliveries.

3. PACKAGING WASTE:

The one-time-use packaging materials have closed the recyclable alternatives and this has increased the use of plastics in the packaging industries.

  • Educating consumers with a note on the packaging material how can they reuse the same or informing them about a proper way to dispose of the material.

  • Reducing the size of the boxes can minimize the packaging waste without compromising the amount of packaging material used.

In short, the pandemic effects are real. With everything changing around us, we have to get used to this new normal. The present times demand the right packaging policies with a sustainable implementation to sail through.
